MEET JANIS ISAMAN

 

As the founder of My Body Couture, a one-on-one private movement studio, Janis is a Trauma Sensitive Movement Specialist dedicated to offering customized, body-focused fitness services to individuals with chronic pain, illness, injuries, and other movement limitations.

Her approach to wellness is rooted in a body-first lens, combining trauma-informed practices with movement and nutrition to support mental health and physical well-being. Janis holds an extensive array of trauma credentials, including:

  • Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness

  • Trauma Centre Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (Bessel van der Kolk)

  • Somatic Experiencing (Beginner 1, Peter Levine)

Janis is recognized for her innovative, whole-body approach to movement, focusing on identifying imbalances while building agency, choice, interoception and capacity. Her practical, functional, and evidence-based methods combine physical movement with mental health strategies to create sustainable, relatable programs that empower clients. Her educational work has transformed how individuals interact with their bodies, providing them with effective tools to achieve long-term movement.

A sought-after keynote speaker, Janis has appeared on over 300 podcasts since 2020. She is also an award-winning writer for Elephant Journal and has been featured as a health expert in Reader’s DigestPreventionWomen’s HealthCosmopolitanWorking MotherSparkPeopleMyFitnessPal, and Beachbody.

In addition to her work with clients, Janis leads professional training programs, helping other movement and mental health professionals earn continuing education and expand their practices.

Outside of her professional work, Janis is an active community volunteer with organizations such as the Calgary Stampede17th Avenue Business DistrictHeritage Park, Telus Spark, and The Confluence. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta and is an engaged and connected mother.
